Future Courses

Future systems biology courses will emphasize biological complexity; large-scale approaches to attacking questions about complex systems; and data analysis. Emphasis will be on big unsolved problems with complex systems such as stress response biology. There will be new training offerings in data integration, analysis, and simulation. Courses will highlight research frameworks and interpretations of experimental results. Students will read papers and discuss them in class. Class presentations will encourage interactive, hands-on learning. Model organisms and biological systems will be discussed to make clear the validity of systems biology principles, such as: “the number of interaction partners, or the level of network connectivity, predicts essentiality.” Or the “genes that are tightly linked in probabilistic networks are very likely to be involved in the same biological process.”
