Education and Outreach
Outreach Programs
Community outreach is a critical component of CCSB’s educational mission. A public seminar series and interactive demonstration program are being planned. In addition, conceptual development activities are producing plans for a genomics and systems biology exhibit suitable for museums, science centers, and schools.
University of Chicago molecular bioscience graduate students receive TA credit for working with the CCSB Education and Outreach Director, local teachers, and students in Chicago-area schools and science museums to develop hands-on inquiry experiences.
Informal science education learning experiences are designed to increase interest, engagement, and understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Informal learning happens throughout people’s lives in highly personalized manners based on particular needs, interests, and past experiences.
This type of multi-faceted learning is voluntary, self-directed, and often mediated within an engaging social context. It provides an experiential base and motivation for further activity and subsequent learning.
