Systems Biology & Powerful Stories
Narratives about systems biology provide opportunities to introduce science concepts and cognitive learning standards about genes, traits, DNA, systems, models, proteins, mitosis, cellular differentiation, networks, predicting, feedback, and models. These concepts are integrated within STEM (iSTEM) curricula for elementary school, middle school, and high school students and teachers. National science learning goals for grades 6–12, such as the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences’ Benchmarks for Science Literacy, Project 2061, stress the importance of learning these topics.
Interesting stories offer engaging frameworks to introduce systems biology to general audiences in informal settings.
